After an exciting Autumn ’16, when a number of my millinery headpieces were selected for international millinery exhibitions, I was delighted when Fenwick of York asked me to put together a couture collection of model millinery for their cutting edge womenswear Design Room. Launched there in May ‘17, it will be featured in the 1st Floor Fashion area for the months of August & November, too. In an earlier post I wrote about the wonderful reception the collection received from customers and staff alike in the York store in May.
For this month’s pop up shop, I have created some new pieces over the course of the summer. August of course is an important race month in York - culminating in Ladies Day at the Ebor Event. So I thought I would feature a couple of these new pieces in this blog post.
Seen here is “York” modelled by Esther Davidson of Alnwick, at the Belford Arts Festival last month. “York “ a popular saucer shape, is worn on headband and features a hand painted feather flower with bejewelled diamante centre, set amongst peacock hurl
“Katie” worn by Kayleigh Lindstedt author of the fashion blog “I Dream of Coco” is a modern interpretation of a classic boater. Katie features a two-tone crown, plaited hatband, is trimmed with an exuberant hand painted French silk ivory & blue poppy, veiling and trimmed coque feathers.
Both “York” & “Katie” are included in the Margaret Woodliff Wright Millinery Collection currently available from Fenwick of York.
I am delighted to have made a beautiful new piece "Nicole" - a fund raiser for the Kickin' Cancer campaign.
Nicole - seen here displayed in a black bud vase
Thinking Pink I have called the piece "Nicole" after a very special lady, and have dedicated it to all those women whose lives have been touched by breast cancer. "Nicole" will be auctioned at the fund raising Kickin' Cancer family barbecue (fund raising for the cancer unit at Alnwick Hospital) at Alnmouth & Lesbury Cricket Club on Sunday July 16th. The auction starts at 3.30pm prompt.
If you can't make the auction, fear not as I can make Nicole in other colour-ways too, so if you are interested in a special piece for a occasion this summer - be it for the races, garden party, wedding or another celebration - please give me a call or email. In August you can see my latest collection in Fenwicks of York when I launch a month long millinery pop up shop especially for those summer occasions and The Ebor race week, find me on the first floor in The Design Room.
I am delighted to announce that my next appearance to show my couture millinery will be at The Belford Arts Festival, Northumberland. I will be showing a selection of pieces including pieces from my archival One Hundred Years Collection, in most beautiful location - The Ballroom, at The BlueBell, Belford.
Just in case you're interested and would like to see the programme, here's a link to copy and paste in your browser which will take you straight to details of the very exiting and hugely varied Arts Festival programme - there will also be a film festival running concurrently. Please do support the Arts Festival (new this year) by coming along if you can.
And another date for your diary is my pop up shop in The Design Room at Fenwick of York, where my summer collections will be available for the month of August. So I am making lots of new pieces, as I write! I am excited to be visiting the store regularly to talk to the customers about the design process of making a couture hat or headpiece, throughout August. Look forward to meeting you there.
