Making a cap for an ardent Alnwick RFC supporter

by Margaret Woodliff | January 23, 2017 | 0 Comments

A couple of months ago I was sworn to secrecy and commissioned to make a cap for an ardent Alnwick RFC supporter. As anyone who lives in this wonderful county or has visited Northumberland knows, the weather can be chilly especially if you're standing on the touch line at the Greensfield pitch, so I figured that the cap would be a great surprise gift!

I researched cap styles and hat blocks and found one that fitted the requirements of the commission, available from a British hat block maker. It has a double peak and is a roomy fit. The cap block design came highly recommended by its designer maker, who has made a tweed cap himself using his original block.

I used dark navy wool felt to block the cap, lined it in Alnwick RFU dark navy silk, and finished it with a contrasting gold head band. The Northumberland lion rampant makes a starring appearance on the back of the cap - the other teams' supporters will be left in no doubt as to which team this supporter is rooting for!

Let me know what you think.
